Self-doubt

with Pastor Andrew Bawa

Every year, we set different goals and try so much to achieve them; however, we find that many people are unable to achieve their set goals due to self-doubt.

On the first episode of The Platform for the year 2023, our host, Bunmi Oduntan, had Pastor Andrew Bawa over to speak on the subject of ‘Self-doubt’. Pastor Andrew Bawa, the lead pastor of NextGen Worship Centre, started with a brief history of his stay in Canada and his call into ministry, after which he went on to talk about self-doubt as being ‘the enemy within’, a doubt of one’s own abilities that everyone must have experienced at one point or another in their lives.

Interview with Pastor Andrew Bawa

Speaking on people’s opinion of a person, he assured the viewers that what really counts is what a person tells himself, pressing down the negative voices of the world and of their own minds. He went on to speak about our belief in God’s ability to do all things against His ability to do things for us. This magnifies doubt and punctures faith. In his words, doubt is the thought that fills one’s mind to the extent that one is not able to carry out one’s plans, visions, aspirations and goals.

To answer the question of whether there was doubt when he was called into ministry some years ago, he went on to say that his spouse was more doubtful than he was, because of the financial situation of the family at the time, but he ‘let go and let God’, establishing that when you follow the voice and leading of God, He makes everything easy. He admitted that one of his major challenges was what people would say, but he told himself that people had already ‘killed’ him with their opinions, so he couldn’t die again. He admonished all to put up a gate against the opinion of the devil and of people. In his words, one of the best things you can do is to tell yourself, “I know I can make it.” To round the session off, he enjoined viewers and listeners to encourage their own selves and to surround themselves with people who would encourage them. In addition, get ready to fail, but when you do, fail forward. There is nobody that has achieved success in life that has not gone through a taste of failure. If nobody believes in you, believe in yourself. The reason you are alive is because you still have something to give.
